Level 20-30 - Hillsbrad Foothills
Region: Hillsbrad Foothills, Eastern Kingdoms
Level Range: 20-30
Control: Alliance
Overview
Southshore is a small coastal town on the edge of the old Kingdom of Lordaeron, and it is one of the last human settlements the Alliance still holds in the north. The Scourge took the heartland. The Forsaken hold Tarren Mill a short ride up the road. And yet Southshore is still here, with a magistrate, a militia, an inn and a harbor. [Game · Zone: Hillsbrad Foothills]
That is why it matters. Southshore is not the biggest town in the Alliance, or the strongest. It is proof that Lordaeron's people did not all die with their kingdom.
A Town at the End of the Map
The magistrate's guards were transferred here from the Stormwind city guard, and they are not happy about it. One of them describes a town that looks abandoned, smells of the harbor day and night, and spends its time on murlocs. [Game · Quest: Down the Coast]
The townsfolk are proud anyway. Southshore claims some of the best cooking north of Stormwind, and its Turtle Bisque is famous. People have traveled from Darkshire for a bowl. [Game · Quest: Soothing Turtle Bisque]
The Magistrate
Southshore is led by a magistrate, and the job is dangerous. The old magistrate, Henry Maleb, was assassinated. The killers were never found, but the evidence points to the Syndicate, a band of thieves led by nobles of the fallen Kingdom of Alterac. His replacement keeps a close eye on the road north. [Game · Quest: Syndicate Assassins] [Game · Quest: Assassin's Contract]
The contract was signed by Baron Vardus, a noble of the former Kingdom of Alterac, known for a cold heart and brutal practices. [Game · Quest: Baron's Demise]
The Syndicate and the Argus Wake
The magistrate believes the Syndicate's leaders are bent on Southshore's ruin, and sends adventurers into the ruins of Strahnbrad to strike first. Letters found on the thieves are encrypted, and one names a being called Nagaz, of a group called the Argus Wake. [Game · Quest: Noble Deaths] [Game · Quest: Dark Council]
Southshore is the closest town to Alterac. If the magistrate hears of something strange in the mountains, he hears it first. [Game · Quest: Further Mysteries]
Murlocs, Naga and the Coast
The coast is not safe. Murlocs fish the beaches, and the Alliance is worried about naga in the Eastern Strand. Lieutenant Farren Orinelle was sent to deal with them, and he would rather be back in Stormwind. [Game · Quest: Farren's Proof] [Game · Quest: Stormwind Ho!]
Farren Orinelle is a shamed officer in Forever, and he has something to prove. [New in Forever] [Game · Quest: The Shamed Lieutenant]
The Boat
Southshore has a harbor boat in Forever. The Alliance route runs from Auberdine to Menethil Harbor, then to Southshore, and back to Auberdine, a loop in one direction. [New in Forever] For Alliance travelers it is the quick way to reach Hillsbrad without riding through the Wetlands, the Arathi Highlands or the Plaguelands. For the old kingdom, it is a link back to the world.
Hallow's End
Southshore is a favorite target of Horde pranksters every autumn. They throw stink bombs, spoil the ale at the Southshore Inn with rotten eggs, and sneak a smell into the kegs. The town's people respond by cleaning up. Which is a very Southshore way to spend a holiday. [Game · Quest: Stinking Up Southshore] [Game · Quest: Rotten Eggs] [Game · Quest: The Power of Pine]
The Cemetery
Even the dead of Southshore are not at peace. The lich Master Helcular was killed by a human lynch mob before he finished his transformation, and they buried his body in the Southshore cemetery. Someone wants it back. [Game · Quest: Helcular's Revenge]
