Origins / Background

[Established Lore] What the game has always held to be true.

Origins

The Forsaken are the undead who broke free of the Lich King. Before that they were the people of Lordaeron, and they died in the Third War, in the plague, and in the Scourge's march. They rose again, not as the Lich King's slaves, but as themselves [WCIII] [WCIII · The Frozen Throne].

Lady Sylvanas Windrunner, once ranger-general of Silvermoon, led them. She was killed by Arthas, and raised as a banshee. When the Lich King's grip weakened, she freed the Forsaken and led them to the ruins beneath Lordaeron [WCIII · The Frozen Throne].

Who Are They?

The Forsaken were humans, high elves and others. Some died in the plague, some in battle, some in the Third War. They keep their memories, their names and their grudges. That is the whole point.

The Name

The Forsaken have a name that says everything. The living forsook them, and they forsook the Lich King. They have no home but the Undercity, no people but each other.
