The First and Second Wars
The orcs came for Khaz Modan as well. When the Horde began to assault their mountain kingdom, the dwarves of Ironforge offered the Alliance their arms and their ingenuity, and the Alliance promised the orcs would be driven back at all costs [WCII]. Dwarven Demolition Squads came out of the deep halls to fight for the liberation of Khaz Modan [WCII]. They are masters of explosives, and they are loyal to a fault... right up to the moment they light the fuse.
The Wildhammers were another story. The gryphon riders of the northern peaks allied only with the elves of Quel'thalas, and trusted neither their dwarven cousins nor the humans. But when the call to battle was sounded, they would fight beside anyone who opposed the Horde [WCII].
Grim Batol
The Horde took Grim Batol. After the war, the Wildhammer Falstad flew with the mage Rhonin to Grim Batol to free Alexstrasza from the Dragonmaw [Novel · Day of the Dragon]. It took help from an Ironforge clan, but Alexstrasza was freed.
The Third War
Muradin Bronzebeard went north with a band of dwarven explorers and cut his way through the Scourge at Arthas's side. He was lost when Arthas took up Frostmourne [WCIII].
The Dark Iron War
While dwarven soldiers were dying in far-off territories for the Alliance, the Dark Iron dwarves struck at home. They laid waste to the Thandol Span, and Dun Modr fell soon after [Game · Quest: The Dark Iron War]. The reinforcements promised to the front never arrived [Game · Quest: In Defense of the King's Lands].
The Dark Iron serve Ragnaros, and they send ambassadors to look for lost artifacts in Uldaman [Game · Quest: An Ambassador of Evil]. Emperor Dagran Thaurissan has even taken Princess Moira Bronzebeard captive and put her under a spell [Game · Quest: The Royal Rescue]. If he has a child with her, the Dark Iron may one day claim Ironforge's throne [Game · Quest: The Princess Saved?]. Please keep that in mind when you play a dwarf who has opinions about the Dark Iron.
Troggs and Gnomeregan
The troggs have been a constant problem. They threaten Dun Morogh and Loch Modan, and Ironforge's mountaineers have been fighting them for years [Game · Quest: The Trogg Threat]. Gnomeregan fell to the troggs and to its own attempts to stop them, which turned most of the gnomish race into leper gnomes [Game · Quest: Operation Recombobulation]. The gnome refugees were given a home in Tinker Town, inside Ironforge [Game · Zone: Ironforge].
The Alliance Today
Ironforge is one of the Alliance's closest allies. Its king, Magni, still sits on the throne, and a Deeprun Tram now runs to Stormwind [Game · Zone: Deeprun Tram]. The Wildhammers keep to Aerie Peak, and while they remember the past more than their cousins in Ironforge, they'll make friends with anyone who rolls up their sleeves and helps with the trolls [Game · Quest: Skulk Rock Clean-up].
