Recent History

The Second War

The gnomes joined the Alliance and brought their inventions with them. The Gnomish Flying Machine, the submarine, and a better recipe for gunpowder all come from gnomish workshops [WCII]. None can deny their value to the Alliance, even if the gnomes are a bit odd and eccentric. (That's from the manual, not us.)

Trogg Trouble

Then the troggs came for Gnomeregan. The gnomes tried to wipe them out, and it backfired in the worst way: most of the gnomish race were turned into leper gnomes, mindless and miserable [Game · Quest: Operation Recombobulation]. High Tinker Mekkatorque had trusted Thermaplugg, and Thermaplugg betrayed him. The city was lost, the gnomes were driven from their home, and Thermaplugg took over [Game · Quest: The Grand Betrayal].

Exile

The survivors fled to Ironforge, where King Magni gave them a district of their own, Tinker Town [Game · Zone: Ironforge]. It's cramped, loud, and probably on fire. They love it.

Retaking the Home

Mekkatorque has not given up. He asked adventurers to kill Thermaplugg and take back the city [Game · Quest: The Grand Betrayal]. In Kharanos, a team of gnomes led by Razzle Sprysprocket and Ozzie is building the Recombobulator, a machine meant to turn the leper gnomes back into their old selves [Game · Quest: Operation Recombobulation].

Goblins and Dark Iron

Gnomish technology attracts attention. The goblins want gnomish designs for their own machines, and the Horde has sent agents to steal the blueprints for Thermaplugg's new rig [Game · Quest: Rig Wars]. Even the Dark Iron dwarves have a hand in it [Game · Quest: A Fine Mess]. It is a very expensive mess.

The Alliance Today

The gnomes are firm members of the Alliance, living in exile among their dwarven cousins. They've lost their city, but not their inventions.
