Faith

The Holy Light

The Holy Light is the faith most humans grow up with. It isn't a god with a name and a statue so much as a power that priests and paladins call on to heal, to protect, and to punish.

In Stormwind the center of it is the Cathedral of Light, headed by Archbishop Benedictus [Game · NPC: Archbishop Benedictus], with Bishop Farthing among its priests [Game · NPC: Bishop Farthing]. Northshire Abbey is where clerics come from, and where a young paladin goes to find Brother Sammuel [Game · NPC: Brother Sammuel].

The Knights of the Silver Hand

Uther the Lightbringer led the Knights of the Silver Hand, the paladin order of Lordaeron [WCII]. They were sent out against the Blackrock orcs and the plague [WCIII]. Then came Stratholme. Uther refused to take part in the purge, and Arthas used his royal authority to disband the order. Uther himself was later killed by Arthas [WCIII].

So when you play a paladin, please keep that in mind. The order that trained the old paladins of Lordaeron is gone. Who taught your human is a good question to answer.

Faith Gone Wrong

Not every follower of the Light kept their balance. The Scarlet Crusade swears to fight the Scourge with body and soul, and offers a place to anyone who doesn't shy from "righteous slaughter" [Game · NPC: Brother Anton]. It's faith with the brakes cut. Great for a villain... or for a defector.

Arcane and Shadow

Not every human leans on the Light. Dalaran's Kirin Tor study the arcane, and Stormwind keeps its own Mage Quarter. Warlocks are another story. Gakin the Darkbinder teaches them in the basement of the Slaughtered Lamb, and the quest text asks you to keep that location quiet [Game · Quest: Gakin's Summons].

More to come soon.
