The Third War
The tauren entered the story at the end of the world. Thrall's fleet was wrecked on the shores of the Barrens, and the orcs met a charge of centaur. That's when Cairne Bloodhoof rode up and met Thrall. The centaur were marching on the tauren village, and Thrall realized he'd landed in the middle of a genocide [WCIII].
The orcs fought to defend the village. When the centaur threat was over, the tauren, orcs and trolls marched together to find the oracle and a new homeland [WCIII].
Thunder Bluff
With the centaur driven out of Mulgore, Cairne built a refuge on the windswept mesa of Thunder Bluff, open to tauren of every tribe [Game · Zone: Thunder Bluff]. The tauren could finally stop running.
The Frozen Throne
The harpies later threatened the tauren, and Baine was captured. Rexxar, a half-ogre champion of the Horde, rescued him [WCIII · The Frozen Throne].
Mulgore Today
The tauren of Mulgore have their hands full. Palemane gnolls are killing the wildlife, and Baine has had to send adventurers after them [Game · Quest: Sharing the Land]. Dwarves digging in the earth enrage the kodo, and Baine has asked for their tools to be broken [Game · Quest: Dwarven Digging].
The Forsaken Pact
Not every tauren liked Cairne's decisions. The Earthen Ring wanted to help the plagued Forsaken, and the tauren made a pact with them. Some in Thunder Bluff think the pact was made too hastily, and wonder who was whispering in the ear of the Elder Council [Game · Quest: Compendium of the Fallen].
The Horde Today
The tauren are a loyal, fierce member of the Horde. Thunder Bluff stands on its mesa, Cairne leads, and the Earth Mother watches.
